Durable Comfort of Scleral Contact Lenses
Scleral lenses are a new alternative to traditional contact lenses, covering a larger area of the eye for comfortable, breathable, crystal clear vision. This large diameter, rigid, gas permeable contact lens has been in use for over a decade for patients with astigmatism, high prescriptions, irregular corneas, dry eyes or athletic lifestyles.
Soothing Coverage and Clarity
Vision is vastly improved with scleral lenses due to their complete coverage over the cornea and how they rest softly on the white (sclera) portion of the eye. Scleral lenses require adding a non-preserved saline solution to the “cup” of the lens before insertion therefore bathing the eye all day in a soothing solution. This soothing fit eliminates corneal astigmatism and creates a perfect refracting surface as light enters the eye, providing phenomenal vision.
Scleral Lens Care
Patients appreciate how sclera lenses are more protective than soft lenses, are more stable on the eye, provide greater clarity and are much less likely to fall out. These lenses are not to be slept in and require disinfection and conditioning, but are not replaced as often as a soft lens. Typically, one pair can last about two years without needing to be replaced.
